What changes on 1 October 2026: the ceiling now counts everything your use costs to run — speech-to-text as well as AI, and web search, which has counted since 23 September — and it is set lower than before, at about one and a half times what you pay (it was about twice). Pro Max and annual plans keep their higher ceilings on the same basis. The reason is plain: more and more subscribers were using IRIS at two or more times what they pay, and past what you pay we are covering your use out of our own pocket. September runs on the old rules, and everything else on this page is unchanged.
What changed on 11 September 2026: IRIS Pro used to step down to a lighter AI model when a month ran very long. That step is retired. There is now one thing only — a single monthly ceiling, described below — so the quality of a cue no longer changes partway through a month.
IRIS Pro includes managed AI, live speech-to-text and web search, with no keys to set up and nothing metered against you day to day. This page explains the one limit that exists, so that you know about it before you subscribe rather than after.
Some people use IRIS so heavily in a month that it costs far more to run than their subscription. IRIS Pro has one monthly ceiling on that cost. If it is ever reached, the AI features pause until the 1st. That is the whole of it. Below the ceiling nothing changes, however much you use IRIS: the same live cues, all month.
What pauses: live cues, Ask, session summaries and Hey Even answers.
What keeps working: recording, transcription, your library of sessions, exports, memory, calendar and to-dos.
By what your use costs us to run — the AI behind live cues, Ask, summaries and Hey Even, plus speech-to-text and web search — not by anything you can see on a counter. There is no cap on sessions, hours, transcripts, questions or cues.
The ceiling sits at about one and a half times what you pay each month. Most subscribers never come near it; the people who reach it are the heaviest users, typically recording for many hours a week. Every usage email we send shows your own figures, so you can see where you stand.
The ceiling is not the same for everyone. IRIS Pro Max, at $29.99 a month, carries double the standard ceiling. If you pay annually, your ceiling is set higher than a monthly subscriber's — you paid for the year up front, and the year should not be interrupted by a month.
If you are heading toward the ceiling, we email you before you reach it — not afterwards. If you do reach it, we email again to say so. Nothing changes silently.
On the 1st of each calendar month, for everyone, regardless of your individual billing date. The AI features come back on automatically. There is nothing to claim or switch back on.
